20 weeks!!! (5 months)
20 weeks! Half way there!!
Baby's size: The baby is the size of a cantaloupe! The baby is 10.5 ounces and 6.5 inches long (the length of a banana).
Baby's development: The baby is starting to swallow!!
Best of the week: Having my mom prepare and deliver a gift basket with some of my old toys and books, plus new ones!
Worst of the week: Feeling overwhelmed by registering! Babies need a lot of stuff!
Side Effects: Still sleepy.
Cravings: I had some cheese fries this week! AND I made my mac and cheese!
This week's Goal: Going to bed before 10!
Anticipating: Finding out the sex of the baby TODAY! Finalizing the baby's name! Continuing to register (but this time for fun stuff since we will know the gender)!
20 week pictures:
5 months! Whoo hoo!
I have more of a bump now! Or it could just be the shirt!
Just in case you didn't know, 5 months again!
I love the wind in my hair! Chris really does a great job with these!
For some reason, this reminds me of how Mary must have felt!

19 Weeks
19 weeks! Whoo hoo! 1 week until we find out the sex of the baby!! (Actually only 1 day -- I am posting this a few days late)
Baby's size: The baby is the size of an heirloom tomato or a mango! The baby is 18 1/2 ounces and 6 inches!
Baby's development: The baby is starting to develop hair! AND the brain is developing into specialized areas.
Best of the week: Find out that our baby is negative for down syndrome! Also, hearing Chris talk to the baby.
Worst of the week: Having students claim that I'm not pregnant, just chubby.
Side Effects: Still sleepy. My foot has only been swollen 1 day this week!! :)
Cravings: Anything that is not a vegetable! I am really enjoying drinking O.J. -- for some reason it tastes almost as good as a peach margarita!
This week's Goal: I need to drink more water!! I can't seem to get enough. AND I need to sleep more!
Anticipating:
1. Finding out the sex of the baby
2. My mom coming in town to help me start to register for gifts.

18 weeks
18 weeks update:
The Baby: Is the size of a sweet potato! 5 1/2 inches long! :)
Best of the week: Talking to the baby! And 2 weeks until we know if it is a boy or girl!
Worst of the week: I am having trouble sleeping...it is hard to go from being a back/tummy sleeper to a side sleeper.
Weight: I have lost 3 lbs. I guess being pregnant is the best diet I've ever tried! :)
Cravings: Cheese fries. Anyone know where to get some awesome cheese fries?
Side effects: I have to watch how quickly I get up after sitting down...I have started to get dizzy. Also, my swollen foot (see other post).
Bump Watch: My students still haven't noticed that I am pregnant. But I have a pair of pants that used to be too big and now they fit just fine!
This week's goal: Work on pregnancy journal and catch up on reading my pregnancy book. Also, sleep more!

Swollen foot!
The mystery of the swollen foot!!
Yesterday, my left foot was so swollen it was loosing feeling. My ankle was double the size it normally is. After discussing this with my doctor, he said that it is not a blood clot or any cause for alarm. So, amen to that!
A friend of mine told me that it means the baby is sitting on my left side, causing me to have more swelling on my left foot.
This is crazy!

Baby's first LIVE Bama Game!
We enjoyed our trip back to Alabama for the Bama vs. Penn State game. I was prepared for a LONG day. For those of you that did not attend a school with a football tradition like Alabama, here a few details. In the fall, you can block off at least 12 hours for tailgating and game time on a Saturday. So, being pregnant added some fun to my 12-16 hour day!!
Best event of the day -- besides AL winning: People giving up their tailgating chairs with foot stools to me so that I could sit down.
Best feeling of the day: Feeling the baby kick when I jumped up quickly to cheer for touchdowns.
Worst event of the day: Walking 2 miles back to the car after the game.
Worst feeling of the day: Extreme exhaustion after tailgating from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Then having to fight traffic back to Birmingham..making my day a 17 hour experience -- with no nap!
Tailgate carving: Loaded cheese fries from Wings (and I got them!!)
Pictures below!

4 Month and 1 week Check Up!
We had a great doctor's visit yesterday. I was able to see Dr. Alarcon again! This was Chris' first visit to the Marietta OB-GYN offices. I enjoyed having him there!
My blood pressure was good, weight was back up to what I started at, and the baby's heart beat was said to be "perfect".
We also had blood work done to check the baby for down syndrome. We should get those results in 2 weeks or so.
The most exciting thing: We find out the baby's gender of Sept. 30!!! Can't wait!!
Anybody care to guess???

16 Weeks! (4 months for those of you that prefer months)
![]() |
Chris' lovely editing! Thanks babe!
Weight: I've gained back all of the weight I had lost. But I think that is mostly due to little sleep and unhealthy eating since I am back working.
Side effects: I am always sleepy!! I could go to sleep at any time...even during my favorite shows! I had to buy bigger underwear! I haven't had morning sickness except for once or twice.
Cravings: I really crave cheddar and sour cream potato chips, cinnamon candies, peanut butter, mac and cheese!
Food dislikes: I can't stand veggies! The thought of a salad makes me sick. I used to not like chicken, but I'm back on it now! :)
Major struggle: Sleeping! I am trying to sleep on my left side to help with circulation, digestion, etc. Except I have and will always be a tummy sleeper. So, I am tossing and turning most every night trying to get it right. I need to invest in a pregnancy pillow and soon!!
Greatest excitement: I think I started feeling the baby moving. It only happens every once in a while, but I have started feeling a sudden flutter on the lower right side of my abdomen. :)

14 Weeks!
14 Week Update: Very little morning sickness, maybe only 1-2 times a week. My biggest side effect is irritability and being exhausted at all times!! I have lost 8 lbs since I became pregnant.
Here is my first attempt at a "bump" picture. I don't know if there is any difference. My students haven't noticed or said anything yet. Chris swears that he can see the baby bump!
Please keep in mind that I was tired from a long day of school and not "feeling" my photo shoot! Better 16 week pictures coming soon!

First Trimester -- Check!
I am out of my first trimester!! Whoo hoo! We didn't document my belly as much as I would wish..but we will do up this second trimester!
Although, I haven't had the same complications other people have had (and trust me, I know I am blessed). I am glad to be moving toward holding this precious baby in my arms!
Last doctor's visit: For my 12 week check up, I had Dr. Alarcon (um, can we say hottie!). I told Chris he better watch out b/c if Dr. Alarcon (aka Carlos, as I call him...or Latin Heat, as Chris calls him) is in my deliver room..I will do whatever that man says! Anyways, on to the update. So, my blood pressure was lower that usual. That was great! I was able to hear the heartbeat -- 150 beats per minute! Carlos said, "perfect, just perfect"! I was able to FINALLY stop taking Prometrium (the yucky drug that made me sick). AND I had lost more weight! (Don't worry, in the past month I have now put on 4 lbs..but I am still 4 lbs less than what I weighed before I got pregnant)! It was a great visit!
Side effects: Mostly I have been tired. Sometimes sleeping 10 hours a night. But, people say to get the sleep now because once the baby comes I won't be sleeping much. I only get nausea about once a week in the afternoon. So that is nice! My main side effect is irritability! I am grumpy and rude to Chris all the time. I am working on that! :)
We are still working on possible baby names. I can't believe I am a few weeks away from finding out the sex! I think my pregnancy will be more "real" to me once I start showing more and know the sex of the baby.
Pics of me through pregnancy coming soon!!
