Blood Pressure: 120/70
Fetal Heartbeat: "Sounds good" -- said Dr. Alarcon
Weight: Gained 2 lbs for a total of 22 lbs during the pregnancy Dr. Alarcon did a pelvic exam! He said I am 75% effaced (thinning of the cervix) and that Bella's head is extremely low. However, I am not dilated.
Next visit: Next Wed (39 weeks) with Dr. Ruffin!
38 Week Update (14 days!):
Baby's size: Your baby has really plumped up. She weighs about 6.8 pounds and she's over 19 1/2 inches long (like a leek).
Baby's development: She has a firm grasp, which you'll soon be able to test when you hold her hand for the first time! Her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb. If she's born with brown eyes, they'll likely stay brown. If she's born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time she's 9 months old. That's because a child's irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after she's born, but they usually won't get "lighter" or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes have more pigment than gray or blue eyes.)
Best of the week: Enjoying my last few days of Bella Rose's movement inside me! Chris doing things around the house to prepare for her (like hanging decorations in the nursery and setting up the pack n play). Relaxing on the couch is now my nightly activity. Even though Braxton Hicks contracts can be slightly painful, I am enjoying feeling things start to progress towards labor!
Worst of the week: The bittersweet feeling of wanting her to stay in but also come out! :) Also, my procrastinating things that I know needs to get done!
Side Effects: Ankles are constantly swollen. My organs definitely feel a little squished. I occasionally feel pain in my abdomen. I am only sleeping about 4-5 hours a night -- waking up frequently because of pains or bathroom breaks. I have to definitely walk slowly and take steps slowly. Also, my irritability is at an all time high (I contribute this to the lack of sleep). My students have to tread lightly! :)
Cravings: French Fries and Brown Sugar Pop Tarts
Anticipating: We have two fun activities this weekend (a baby shower and the Super Bowl party). After that, I am anticipating spending a lot of time relaxing and limiting social engagements. Also, I am anticipating when I will go into labor! Any day now....
Here are this week's goals:
- Continue writing letters to Bella in my pregnancy journal -- I wrote several last week!
- Continue filling out my pregnancy album
- Read our new parent devotional
- Finish packing for the hospital (Still isn't done...I am a procrastinator)\
- Install car seat (Still isn't done....I am a procrastinator)
- Thank you cards (only 2 left)
Chris took some awesome maternity pictures last weekend! He is editing them, and they are coming soon!
